The success of Marathon Gold in expanding resources on the property has provided the stimulus for gold exploration along a south west /north east trending greenstone belt which has receive varying amounts of work in the past. The belt hosts VMS deposits including the recently shut down Duck Pond Mine and the historic Buchans Deposits, all which have contain gold. The Valentine Lake Gold property is comprised of several Paleozoic sedimentary and volcanic rocks which have the potential to host gold. The main focus of exploration for Marathon is an approximately 25 km long by 4 km wide late Precambrian intrusion. There are four gold deposits and numerous showings developed on the property. Two of the deposits to date exhibit the potential to host greater than 1M oz of gold. Gold occurs in quartz tourmaline pyrite veins mainly in extensional veins. The structural setting has been compared to Lamaque-Sigma. The potential is high open pit mining as well as under mining in two of the deposits to date.
